@Matthew

I agree yes, credit card gateways and all that stuff had to be manually handled by my code, making the dev time quite exhaustive. With the arrival of SEBLOD multi-storage on field values (maybe in GA) we will be able to store items into any 3rd party component tables, like Vmart, Ocart etc, and this will allow us to add cart items as well as native SEBLOD content type items, all in one save.

It would be interesting to have discussions like this. For example, we say "How to create a shopping cart using SEBLOD only" and then we see how the various members of the community would go about solving this. Heck, we could even run bi-monthly challenges and get some sponsors to do prizes. That way, there is an incentive and the community benefits in seeing the various methods a single task can be solved!

Hi, good news.

Hikashop is now GPL V3.

www.hikashop.com/en/license-agreement.html

It's great and I think there is no need to re-invent the wheel. We can use the core of hikashop and give it power with seblod.

Daniel.

@all,

It should also be noted that you can quite easily create your own (simple) shopping cart system with a few smart moves and custom list templates. I have done it before, and the procedure I followed was this:

  • I created a content type called 'shop_item' which had all necessary fields like price etc
  • I create a custom search / list template to show the items, along with their add to cart button
  • I then created a simple session based cart, adding items as session variables when a user added them to the cart
  • When it was time to check out, the user entered their info which was also stored in a session
  • They were redirected to my payment gateway processing page where they'd pay
  • Once paid, they were sent back to a specific page with a custom SEBLOD form that captured the session info, pre-populated a hidden field and submitted the form. This form ultimately published an 'order' content type with the details of the transaction.

Some food for though, the possibilities are endless. That being said, it would be AWESOME to have native e-Commerce functionality OR easy integration.

Kind regards,
Simon

As far as straight e-commerce goes, my favorite system is OpenCart (www.opencart.com/). But it's not a Joomla system. The developers of OpenCart see their system as a CMS in its own right, so they are not that keen to bridge it with Joomla. But I think the feature set of OpenCart is exactly what we need in Joomla!

In my opinion, a good general solution would be to neatly integrate an existing e-commerce extension into a Seblod plugin (field and content type?), and be able to call up material inside Seblod entries.

Don't know if it can be useful for you, but just found out this extension to integrate OpenCart inside Joomla: extensions.joomla.org/search?q=opencart

To give my opinion concerning a shopping cart solution working with Seblod, personally I'd prefer VirtueMart 2.0 which is totally free and even if it's not a perfect shopping cart, still has been greatly improved since the last version, is more user friendly (in my opinion) than HikaShop, and with a larger choice of third party extensions.

Greetings,
I've installed and tested all the well-known Joomla e-commerce systems: VirtueMart, HikaShop, redShop, Tienda, SimpleCaddy...

I avoid systems that impose all kinds of their own structure and styling on your sites, or which do not offer enough depth to handle levels of product categories.

I agree that the HikaShop's interface is a bit more convoluted, but it has a lot of power, is easy to style, and the developer is very active in his user forum. If you want a system that does everything, go with redShop. But it's something like $400 for a license.

In the end, I favor HikaShop even though it's more complicated. I like the way fields are created with it independently.

Thanks,
Matthew

Hi Everyone,

I'm really interested in e-commerce integration and would like to be involved with testing if anything is available? Keen to help out wherever I can to get this moving.

I've used Virtuemart and RedShop and I like both of them alot.

Hello everybody

Diving into Seblod code I found two plugins (libraries/cms/cck/plugin/payment.php and shipping.php) Maybe the base for a future Seblod shopping system. Hopefully.

Somebody know something?

Regards

Hi All,

I am not sure on the status of eCommerce (if any) however I have successfully managed to create a shopping cart using SEBLOD content types and SimpleCaddy plugins, utilizing various CCK plugins such as my SD Field Concat to build the plugin string.

If you're looking for a quick shop plugin that you can integrate with SEBLOD, SimpleCaddy works well, and I have heard great things about HikaShop and SEBLOD, and that may possible be where the payment and shipping files are coming from!

Kind regards,
Simon

Here's a site I did in jseblod (Seblod 1), with just adding paypal button code to my template:

www.monaluna.com

Granted, it's the basic Papal cart where the cart and checkout is hosted by Paypal, but it's 100% Seblod. Because of that, I was able to create a custom "configuration" content type where the client can choose shipping and tax options. Furthermore, it was planned (but hasn't yet happened) to create a wholesale login where the prices are different (lower) for wholesale clients. Simple, but flexible at the same time.
