I think there is an Errata in one of the How To's:

How To Create a jSeblod Content Template?

Where it says

Let’s continue and write 3 different code in the 3 different index.php:

Probably should say

1. index.php into “recipe” folder:

It's quite obvious, but when you are in the process of understanding it can take you some time to realize

Yes you are right, the most important file is the index.php, and when you use FTP that is enought. But when you want to do a template which can be export and inport with Joomla or with content pack, you must do the xml file. You will find in few days a wiki documentation for jSeblod community and you will be able to correct this. Best Regards.
