The 2011 Joomla Day South Africa looks set to be a milestone in terms of Joomla based events in South Africa. This year we see the event being hosted at a world class venue, The Pavillion conference centre at the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, Cape Town.

We will also be seeing some big names in the Joomla world, some in person and others via video link-ups. It does not matter how we see them, the fact that they are present adds nothing but credibility to an already exciting event. With faces such as Peter Van Westen (NoNumber.nl) we're in for a treat.
About a month ago I was approached by the SEBLOD development team to do a presentation on SEBLOD 2.0 CCK for Joomla 1.6 / 1.7 but was unsure if I had it in me. That being said, the word “yes” just rolled out of mouth and into their ears.

Never having any previous public speaking experience whatsoever, why on earth did I say yes? Simple. I believe in this component and I believe that it has given me – and many other
developers & designers – the keys to a door that has opened up plenty of opportunities for me. Gone are the days where I needed to search the JED for hours on end to gather a collection of reliable components, modules or plugins that would do what I wanted them to. Gone are the days of being 99% near to the end of a Joomla project only to discover that indeed your latest extension download does not offer all that it says, or crashes your site and takes your server down with it.

SEBLOD 2.0 CCK for Joomla 1.6 / 1.7 which offers us the ability to create any type of content, be it an image gallery, a recipe with ingredients and methods or even a classifieds listing with user submitted adverts. A streamlined and intuitive AJAX interface allows us to move around quickly and logically and we find ourselves being able to do the same tasks from more than one
location. The developers have taken into account how and where the developer needs his toolbox.

My choice to present on SEBLOD CCK at the 2011 Joomla! Day South Africa was all in all to introduce the CCK to those wanting to taking Joomla to a new level. It does not matter if you're a
seasoned PHP developer or a Joomla tinkler, SEBLOD CCK has something for everyone. I will run through the core concepts of what a CCK is, Content Types, Fields, Storage Types, Templates and Search Types. I will also demonstrate the power of the templating system by using position overrides and variations to make custom tweaks to content when and where desired.

At the end of the day, I believe SEBLOD CCK has a lot more to offer than most (if not all) other CCK's and it is just a matter of understanding how things tie together. At a glance SEBOD might seem a little difficult to master, but it is not at all as difficult as it seems and I hope to show those present that this is undoubtedly the most powerful CCK for Joomla 1.6 / 1.7.
The event will be professionally broadcasted and uploaded online at a later stage, so I'll be sure to update you when this happens.
