I'm building different user forms in order to create different user profile types with different fields, roles, privileges and so forth.
How can I tell a user registration form to automatically assign the user to a pre-defined Joomla user group?
Thought about using the default User Groups field in read-only mode and a preset value.
Any other way to do it?

I've tried that but the user is not assigned to any group.
Also tried to use the group name.

Suggestions are much appreciated!

Hi everyone,

I have here the same kind of problem and it's becoming urgent to solve it. I'm building a site which subject is a rare disease affecting children. Apart from informing, my purpose is to use a Seblod form and Kunena restricted forums to do 2 things:

  • Use the different skills of people, not only families but also the ones who want to get involved in fighting a disease, to build all kind of projects.
  • Build a professionnal european medical and researchers network to accelerate the progresses towards a cure

So I have a lot of different user groups and I'd like to assign people on their first visit to the joomla user groups, so that then can have an immediate access in the different Kunena forums according to their own skills.

My form is ready, but my problem is the same as in the previous posts: assign people to Joomla user groups without using the "Jform-user groups" field which is not really easy to use when you got around 30 different groups.

So I tried to separate them by themes using radio and checkboxes and the storage settings.
Problem: it seems that the "Jform-user groups" field is storing in a "Groups" field in the "#_users" table but I can't find, whereas I'm able to write in existing fields of this table like the "skillstext" or the "usertype" one.

I also found a "user integration" setting in the Seblod parameters, but I don't know how to use it or even if it has something to do with it.

Thanks for your help and for the great job around Seblod

Hi,

I have watched again all the videos and made multiple searches in the forum but I could not find any answers. And I'm afraid my more than basic level in all kind of computer languages won't help me a lot.

So is there any expert who can give me the beginning of an answer? It 's really becoming urgent as I'm starting a advertising campaign at the beginning of september to finance a research project, and it is partly based on the registration and fostering of people loyalty.

Well, I've noticed in the database that the belonging to the different groups of each user is stored in the mapping table #_user_usergroup_map. I've got 2 problems here:

  • I manage to write one group in the Group_id field but I'm unable to link it to the corresponding user_id as I don't find the way to write the becoming registered user id in this field
  • My other concern is that I apparently can't write more than one group for one user even if I check more than 1 items in the checkbox I'm using for that

I guess all this has something to do with the use of live values, but I'm not familiar with them and I was not able to find any explanation on how to use them.

Thanks for any answer

Cédric

Hi All,

May be seblod cannot override the default settings in joomla.

If you want only particular group for your entire registration, pls change in the user config.

Hi,

for me it is working properly, no issue while using admin form.

I manage to write one group in the Group_id field but I'm unable to link it to the corresponding user_id as I don't find the way to write the becoming registered user id in this field

Hello, and thanks you for the answer.

Yes I made test with this, but it's ok for one content type, but I've three content type.
I tried to use user_group_id as hidden field with a live value, but it change the user group itself, not my user's group assignation.

If I don't have choice, I'll put my user registration not as automatic, but tell the admin to valiate the new user and auto assign to the right group for the right content type.

a Seblod team answer would be great ,
Have a nice day

Jo

Hello,

that is unfortunately the way I have chosen.

I'm looking back to Community Builder which seems to be able to hanble this very useful function when man wants to manage a community and make it efficient, just by dividing it in groups to work separetly.

This give me actually some doubts about the ability of Seblod to handle complex communities integrated with other components (like Kunena).

Anyway, I'm waiting for the GA realease and moreover for documentation, hoping I'll find some elements, unless a Seblod specialist helps us.

Best regards

Cédric
